  • Talus/calcaneus/midfoot and toes

Sports Medicine

Sports medicine is a subspecialty of orthopedics that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries suffered during athletic activity. The goal of treatment is to heal and rehabilitate injuries so patients can quickly return to their athletic activities. Participating in sports places wear-and-tear on the body and can lead to orthopedic injuries. Athletes are susceptible to injuries that include stress fractures and chronic pain, as well as tearing or stretching of internal structures. Treatment for these conditions can involve surgery, orthotics, physical therapy, and rest.

Surgery

Orthopedic & Trauma Service of Oklahoma is available around the clock because serious accidents and complex bone injuries don’t adhere to any schedule. We practice and cover orthopedic trauma at St. John Medical Center, and some surgeries are done at Tulsa Spine & Specialty Hospital.

Unique Cases

We also specialize in complex cases with non-unions, infection, bone loss, segmented defects, and mal-unions. Often, we get referrals from physicians in the OK-MO-KS-AR region for cases that require additional surgery to repair those fractures that just won’t heal.

    Review

The staff here is very attentive, caring, and personable. They put genuine care into your needs for recovery, they always ask about my concerns when I arrive and that is passed onto the doctor/surgeon evaluating your injury, they’re pretty busy however I never feel rushed. I’ve had a great experience here.

    Review

As we walked out of the office my husband and I discussed that this was the best medical experience we’ve had (and we’ve had many). Everything ran like clockwork. The nurse was professional and pleasant and the doctor was thorough, educational, and totally engaged.

    TRAUMA FELLOWSHIP OF OKLAHOMA

    Growth through learning and teaching

The physicians of Orthopedic & Trauma Services of Oklahoma also sponsor and teach the Trauma Fellowship of Oklahoma, a one-year fellowship for residents who have graduated from an accredited orthopedic surgery residency program. The Fellow is a University of Oklahoma College of Medicine employee with University resident benefits. More information about the fellowship can be found at the website HERE.

Trauma Fellowship of Oklahoma is a University-based program, for which the primary teaching site is a private hospital with a Level 2 trauma center. With no orthopedic surgery residency at this location, the fellow is allowed the opportunity to participate in any and all cases. The Trauma Fellowship is a one-year program designed to prepare an orthopedic surgeon for a career in orthopedic traumatology and post-traumatic reconstructive surgery, in either a full-time academic setting or private practice. Our program is registered with the OTA, and fellowship positions are filled through the San Francisco Match.

Our physicians are also teaching physicians with the Oklahoma State University Orthopaedic Surgery students. The Orthopaedic Surgery residents from OSU do monthly rotations through trauma, pediatrics, hand, and spinal surgery. It is not uncommon to see one of our surgeons trailed by one or two residents or for them to visit you during your hospital stay.
